Can anyone suggest anything to stop the overflow pipe in the garden from continually dripping. I have changed the valve and ballcock mechanism in the large water tank in the loft, which is full but not overfull. The valve seems to work ok and opens and closes with the rising or falling of the water level. The "head" tank next to it also has a reasonable level in it.. so why does the overflow pipe continue to drip drip drip...
Any suggestions most wecolme.

is the other f/e tank filling when the large cws tank is overflowing ?
if so a split coil in cylinder if the f/e is higher than the cws.

or you may have cold mains passing to gravity hot from a mixer tap etc.
try shutting your main stopcock does it stop overflowing ?

is the tank overflow mounted to the side of the tank above the water level or is it a stand pipe type mounted in the bottom? if it is a stand pipe it might be loose where the pipe goes into the tank connector and you could be lucky and push it back in to seal it, if not you will have to remove, clean and refit the pipe, this will mean the whole tank empties (as that is what this type of fitting is for) so make sure nobody is below the overflow pipe!!

If the top of the water level in the little tank is below the over flow outlet of the big tank and your new ball valve on big tank is not dripping and yet the level in that tank keeps rising then you have a faulty mixer tap/shower somewhere and the cold mains is bypassing it and going up the hot pipe.
