Legalising cannabis

Hard to say what would happen really. I've known many regular pot smokers (who were all wasters); it does nothing for one's motivation or general state of mind. If everyone only smoked the odd couple on a weekend then it would make perfect sense. But this is not usually the case. My best mate smoked it all day, every day for about 15 years. He was a paranoid wreck but luckily he has quit altogether now and as a result has a house and a girlfriend (his words). In summary, we can't have any nice things in this country because tossers always go overboard and ruin it for everyone else. If anyone is concerned about health then the best thing would be to slowly phase out alcohol, but of course no government is going to do that because it earns the treasury too much

Why would anyone who doesnt take drugs even want or be interested in legalising a habit that is illegal and criminal.

I don't swill bottles of vodka, but I prefer it to be taxed, and sold in licenced premises under legally-mandated control, rather than on street corners and down dark alleys.

What sort of person wouldn't care?

Highwayman.

I don't think legalising cannabis will do anything to make anyones life better or be any benefit for the country. LSD is illegal would you like to legalise that too so that it isnt sold down a dark alley. You put up a very weak case for legalising something so it isnt sold down a dark alley.

What do you mean when you say "legalise?"

Do you mean supply a harmful material only to adults, in restricted and licenced premises, at limited strength and known purity?

Rather than trade it down a dark alley?

I don't care what is sold down dark alleys so long as it doesn't get sold in shops and normalised. Taking drugs is not a sensible thing to do so I would suggest not starting on them in the first place and then there would be no need to buy from criminals and dodgy people.

Agreed, when drugs make the news, like when county lines are interrupted, or a consignment seized, there is no mention of the people buying the stuff. The fact that there is a market is taken as a given. It might be an idea to try to tackle that end of it.

And yet you took up drinking.

Alcohol and nicotine have the highest dependence numbers than any other addictive substance, and at a greater cost than all the other drugs put together. There are more violent attacks attributed to alcohol than any other addictive substance.

I don't drink so I wouldn't know about alcoholism and its dangers, however I am fully aware of the dangers of drugs that are illegal.

Drinking alcohol is legal.....im always getting smashed.....but drugs are bad m'kay....
