My main memory of the white house disco was one saturday night meeting a girl, Sue was her name. We had a few dances, I bought her a drink or two and at the end of the evening I offered her a lift home. She accepted and told me she lived in Bracknell. A slight nuisance because Bracknell was a fair distance and the opposite direction to Slough. Anyway, I drove her home in my Mk2 Cortina, I wasn't really familiar with Bracknell so she directed me and eventually ended up on a large housing estate, she said 'I live there, middle house'. It was an average house fronted by a communal 'green' with a couple of trees. We had a snog and I asked her if I could see her again, she said yes and I arranged to pick her up the following night at 7pm.
The following night I found the estate no problem but was struggling to find her house, it was a large estate and my recollection of a small row of houses, fronted by a communal green, couple of trees was a description that seemed to fit quite a few of the houses on this particular estate.
Eventually I pulled over and parked at what I was fairly sure was where I'd stopped the night before. I walked across the green and there was a couple of kids playing football so just to be on the safe side I said to the lads 'oi, what house does Sue live in lads', 'that house over there mister'.
I knocked on the door and said to the middle aged lady 'is Sue in', the lady explained that Sue had popped down to the shops but invited me in. Sue's parents were lovely and we got on really well, she offered me a cup of tea which I accepted and then insisted I have a piece of cake.
Ten minutes later I'm sitting there, chatting away, cup of tea in one hand, cake in the other when we heard the front door open, 'that'll be Sue' said the lady, and in walked a girl I'd never seen before in my life.
