I need to reroute the SWA that supplies my shed, meaning that I also need to lengthen it. I've inspected the cable for markings but it doesn't say anything other than the manufacturer and "600/1000"

It's 3 core and 17mm diameter, so is it likely that it's 4mm^2 cable and therefore something like this do the job : http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/SWA-RESIN...ls_Supplies_Electrical_ET&hash=item3a6b07bc51

Thanks

Gary

Requires a lot of skill to do a resin filled joint properly, if it isn't sealed properly and the resin leaks out it will go down in no time.

The job also comes under part P so best to get a registered electrician who is experienced in jointing SWA.

Do the resin joints (or Birkett joints) still comply?

The last one I saw had screw terminals before it poured over and buried which is about as inaccessible as I can imagine.

There's a specific exemption for cast resin joints in the regs. Besides there's no chance of a screw working loose when it's encased in solid resin.

the screw heads on the brass connectors shear off when they are at the correct tightness.

other occasions ive used uninsulated butt crimps and covered them in PVC tape, gets fun on the large cable sizes.
