Does anyone know if there is a trick to getting the lid off of these CU's?

It is a Proteus CU with 4 screws in each corner. They do a quarter turn and each pop out but the lid still seems attached at the top some how.

Any ideas?

Many thanks,

Chris

Looks like the plasterer has got a bit close, probably what is holding it back

Are you replacing it? Proteus CU's are the worst things known to man after tights!!! :p

Lets hope it's plaster rather than new plasterboard and plaster.

You going to need to hack out the plaster at the top of the cu, there maybe wirings so go very carefully. Try marking a line 1cm away from the cu plaster meet point and chip away with a blunt chisel or decorators scraper.

You were all correct!

Despite it looking to me like the plaster was not in the way, it was.

Not replacing, just adding another MCB on the left because I want a new socket directly below the CU for the freezer.

Thanks all,

Chris

No complaints or derision about the idiot plasterer with no thought for anything/anyone else?

I can imagine the uproar had a plumber placed a pipe across the board.

What about the electrician who fitted the CU up against the unscimmed plasterboard? Let's not get into inter-trade arguments without knowing the facts.

That would never happen. The plasterer should have skimmed the studs down a bit!!
