Hello, wondering if anyone here might be able to advise me on what might be the cause of this lighting issue that I have in my home. The bedroom light has slighted to flicker when I switch it on. It doesn't happen every time and happens at random times. Sometimes when I turn on the switch, the light bulb will struggle to brighten itself, it would turn bright then go off then turn bright then go off - it turns on brightly after a few seconds and not instantly like it should. It seems like it's just this light in the room that does this - all the other lights in other rooms are working fine and don't have this problem. I have tried changing the light bulbs but it still does the same thing. I am wondering whether it's a faulty light fixture that needs replacing or the light switch needs replacing that is the likely culprit or something else? I thought it might have somethign to do with a surge/overload of multiple electric applicances being used at the same time but a couple of occcasions this has happened early in the morning when there are no other electrical appliances in use.

Sounds like a loose wire connection in the light fitting or switch. Isolate the lighting circuit, check it is isolated, get your screwdriver out and ensure all screws are tight in the fitting and switch..

An alternative method, might be to turn it on, then try tapping first the switch, then the light fitting. When it flickers, when you tap one of them, is likely where the issue lies.

Is it a bayonet or Edison socket? Edison ones love to do that when the centre contact gets slightly bent.
