After my extension is complete there will be no windows on the landing, making it rather dark unless a bedroom door is left open.

So, I was wondering about installing a light pipe such as this:

Anyone had experience of fitting and their effectiveness?

Thanks.

We had one fitted a few years ago. I think I got it through build base or Jewsons. I can't remember the make, but it has a flexable foil tube rather than a ridgid pipe.

It doesn't give as much light as a window or velux would, but the alternative would be an area at the top of the stairs with no natrual light! On a bright day it does provide quite a bit of light, most of the time it is quite good.

It does have a light fitting built in for when it gets dark, or on particularly dull days. In the night the moonlight comes down it as well!

carryon,

Hows the build coming on ?

After my extension build (last year) i have now gone all the way. I purchassed a piece of land and i'm doing a full house this time.

I have dug out the footings, spread and compacted 200 tonnes of mot1, laid radiant barrier(was a quarry so BC have specified it) made and laid 2.5 tonnes of steel reinforcement and today poured 15 cubic meters of comcrete for the ring beam.

Starting on the brickwork tomorrow for the toe of the raft then i can pour a further 40 cubic meter of the grey stuff.

I will take a few piccies and post soon.
