My dash lights and rear headlights have gone at the same time on my 1998 ford escort, what could be the problem?

I'd start by checking the fuses and the switch. In some fords the fuse box which covers tail lights is hidden behind the glove box.

Check fuse no.12. (inside the car -drivers side).

check the fuses first as suggested but its usually the switch that has failed causing this odd one, ive had 2 escorts that its happened to
