The light switch is not switching the top lights off. I open the switch box and found the following connections: two cables -brown and blue- attached together to one terminal, and a yellowish cable attached to the other terminal of the switch. So is something wrong here? as is not cutting off the electricity to the top lights...

Thanks for your help.

Odd colour combination there??
Can you upload a photograph of the wiring, also the wiring behind the other switch (assuming this is a 2 way circuit)?
Have you had anything done to the wiring recently?

until we get a photo of the switch itself and a little more detail ( like has it ever worked, have you just moved in, which switch is it, which light is it supposed to control? ) then we're at a a loss to help you..

If nobody has altered the wiring recently, then you need a new switch.

If somebody  has altered the wiring, then in all probabilty the brown and blue cable are the switchline cables and should be in seperate terminals. Which leaves the 'yellowish' cable...

I don't suppose it's a green-and-yellow cable is it??
