light to illuminate the inside of a dresser

hi all
any suggestions as to what to get...
I need a light (thinking floresent tube) to illuminate the inside of a dresser/dressing table.
The top is about 1m long and he light will go under a piano type lid (the top of the dresser lifts like a piano lid with a mirror underneath to do your make up in lol
soooo, it will also need some sort of switch so when the lids u it comes on, and down it goes off (like a car boot light does)

i would suggest LED strips and a door push switch held open when the lid is down

the opening space is 600mm long so the 500mm white LED wold do the job, £26 LED + £11 power supply + £3 door switch = £40

I'll have to have a look see if there are any cheaper alternative's but at least it's a start... thank you

does this need a power supply or go straight to mains?
would it also work with a door switch so automatically came on when the lid was lifted?
