Have been asked to light a cattle barn 30 x 30 meters for 130 cows and been advised that 4 70watt sodium fittings would be sufficient. has any one any experience in farm biuldings that can offer any advice. Have looked at the BS regs which says lighting should be 200 lux.

Hard to say witout seeing it, but 4no. 70W fittings doesn't seem like much to me.

Also, will the farmer be happy with orange SON light?

Sons are recommended on farms as the light does not upset the cattle.

Wall mounted flood lights are the usuall choice, makes maintenance easier with a barn full of cattle.

Last barn we did had 150watt sons in each 'alley', one each end.
