outside lighting - what to fit ?

Waaaay too much...I'm thinking this, if I can get them to fit the horses...

RF, I'm no great lover of halogen lighting, except for the instant strike off. I'd like to reduce the power required, but the energy bill isn't huge (due to low burning hours), so the payback is years.
This pushes me away from discharge lighting, and I'm still thinking that the cfl based ones (like TTC suggested) are the way forward.
TTC - you don't have to resort to back alley lamp pushers yet !
