lighting query

Hi all, my problem is that i have lights upstairs but not down stairs. they are all one one circuit breaker, not sure if theyre ceiling rose or junction box wired. where do i start to look for the fault? Also the hallway light down stairs works, this is closest to the junction box about a meter away just not sure where to look next. Any ideas? Help anybody? Thanks

Do you have both of these:

1. 
   An understanding of how lighting circuits are wired, how they work, etc
2. 
   A multimeter

Post a few pictures of your lights and consumer board if possible

Is this something that just happened out of the blue?
Or something that has happened after a DIY attempt?

Have been changing, removing, replacing light fittings?
