Lights faded to nothing

Hi guys,

I'm absolutely useless so begging for help here!
Light bulbs went in the kitchen, they're 4 spotlights with pins so 12v.

Bought some from wilko 50w.

Replaced them, worked perfect, turned it off went for a run.

Came home, tried to show the mrs we have light thinking I'm all amazing and stuff, they turned on and within 30 seconds they all faded out...

Not a clue what's wrong, they didnt pop or go instantly so it doesnt feel like a fuse but they just faded out.

Now I've just noticed that on the fitting it does have something where it says 12b 20w mr16

The bulbs I have put in halogen 680 lumen.

Help me pretty please

There will be a transformer ( or power supply) in the ceiling. A white box?

It’s probably failed.

Finding it is the trouble. Remove the down lights and look around with the consumer unit off

As pathetic as it sounds I think it may be an electrician job, too embarrassed to ask family friends ha

If he wants to replace all the Downlights with mains ones. Let him.

Sorry mate, excuse my ignorance but what do you mean replace downlights with main ones?

This is the light fitting by the way.

The transformer is in the base of the fitting ,and its Kaput !! Buy a new fitting and in future don't put bulbs that are a higher wattage than is specified on the fitting , its likely to damage the fitting.

Well you could try replacing the transformer if you really like the light fitting ,providing all the wiring is in good condition.

Gonna buy this and have a go at fitting it myself, is it easy?

Should be ,take pics of the wiring inside the existing fitting ( with power off ) before disconnecting it. And post the pic here for more advice.

Try it again tomorrow with just 1 of the 50w lamps in, you may find the transformer will reset once the powers left off.
Why was you relamping it, did the initial Lamps all go off together or individually.
I take it the lamps are in correct, sometimes you also have screws to tighten onto the lamp pins.

God I hope so!

Bought the house in January last year, they've all slowly gone one by one, I did replace one a while back and that was fine but I can't remember what wattage that were, and I also only put that one in so that may be why it was fine whereas this time I thought I'd do the sensible thing and finally have 4 fresh bulbs in (backfired on me).

Yes it's got screws on and as far as I can see it is definitely screwed tightly and all snug fit.
