Hi. This is probably very basic, so apologies. I'm trying to install some dimmer switches where previously we've just had conventional on/off switches. The hole in the wall is not deep enough to accommodate the dimmer mechanism, and rather than get in to the hassle of chiselling out a deeper hole, I want to just fit a riser between the switch plate and the wall (is so the plate isn't completely flush). NOWHERE seems to sell the risers though and because I don't know what the official name of them is, I can't google them either. It's driving me nuts! It's not a pattress, or a new box I need, just something that will bring the switch itself away from the wall a bit (one switch in the house has one, it is about 10mm thick) and I can only describe it as a riser. Can anyone point me in the right direction, either to where they will be sold or what they are called! Thanks. Phil

I think that is what he is after, however if he cant get hold of one of those locally, the other option is to get a 16mm pattress, drill the threads out to clearance holes and then carefully remove a large area of the back. Faffing around... yes, but if you only have one to do than not a massive undertaking

What a coincidence. I was going to ask that very question, although I'll be buying a brass finish dimmer switch. I don't suppose they do spacers in brass?!
Thanks everyone.
