Now it appears I have my W-B cond. combi boiler sorted is it worth investing in an electronic limescale preventer to protect the internals - the CH system has had an inhibitor added at the time of installation.

I think so, I'd use one at home if I had a combi, my customers never go for it, but that's their decision. I'm sure the electronic ones are excellent, however The Worcester service man I asked recommends that type which has balls in which you change every now and then is it 6 months? ANyhow it lets you know when needed. I think British gas use that type. I bought a batch of 10 and got 11th free.

I should say it's a toss up which will go first on a combi fan plate heat exchanger or diverter valve, but I'd take any measures possible to preserve the life of a plate heat exchanger if I had one.

That's the one.

ps I had one of those magnetic ones spring a leak from the seam of the plastic body recently. Never really trusted the cheap magnet theory anyway.

Combimate, or any of the silicone polyphosphate types are known to work. Electronic or magnetic are hit and miss. I cannot find any independant reports on these things and since they give you a 90 day guarantee, how can you tell if it works in 90 days?

the electromagnetic scale reducers have been used in the pond industry for years, some like them some dont.

there is no real cast iron proof they actually work

Vaillant do not permit ( or did not ) the use of the polyphosphate water treatment on their combis because they found they could produce a clear jelly like deposit in the plate heat exchanger.

That seems to be a totally useless comment which adds nothing to the topic and is one the Moderator should delete as it detracts from the quality of the responses on the web site!
