hello,

i would like to line our walls but the walls still have the old wallpaper glue on them.
Can i leave the old glue on and if so should I still seize the walls?

Regards

The old glue should not be a problem (provided that you don't have large clumps of the stuff).

If the walls feel smooth when you run your hands over them, you should be ok.

If you are concerned, you can mist the wall with water and scrape it off, alternatively use fairy liquid in hot water and a sponge it off. or use Zinsser Dif (it is an enzyme based product that breaks the glue down).

In most cases the new size will simply reactivate the residual glue.

Personally, when lining, I use full fat paste on the wall and then use full fat on the paper whilst both surfaces are still wet.

I would only pre-size if i was worried about old horse hair plaster having bits of grit on the surface. Pre-sizing allows me to sand then away before papering.
