Hi,

I would like to links 3 300W PIR security lights in series. Would this be possible? Or would linking cause them to dim? Does this look right?

MAIN RING<--T+E-->FCU 13A<--ARCTIC T+E-->PIR<--ARCTIC T+E-->PIR<--ARCTIC T+E-->PIR

TIA, Jim

I presume you are putting them at different locations around your home, if so you should connect them in parallel not in series.This means one live to next live, one neutral to next neutral, one earth to next earth & so on to each lamp. You also need to use a swiched spur as oppossed to an unswitched one.

What you appear to have described is not a series circuit. It is 3 loads in parallel between phase and neutral. To achieve a simple security lighting system you simply connect 2 cables into each PIR, except the furthest one from the FCU, ensuring that the phase wires go together in the terminals of the PIR and do the same for the neutral and the earth wires. Each PIR will receive 230V independently. The max load is 900W, so you must use a 5A fuse in the FCU. 1.5mm cable should suffice.

Do NOT be tempted to link the switched lives together ( so that activating any one PIR switches on all lights ) unless you take care that the total lamp wattage and in-rush current is within the capabilty of the switching relay in the PIRs.

There are PIRs which have master / slave connections where one PIR can make other PIRs operate their relays remotely.
