Found today on the weather side of the house. A steel lintel, looks like either a hot rolled channel or a hot rolled angle above a window of approx 150cm wide is rusting badly and is lifting 5 courses of bricks above it. The lintel has no drip lip or any damp course material. I have 3 other windows/doorway with this type of lintel, but are not rusting as badly as this one due to being sheltered from the prevailing weather.
Other houses on our estate of the same configuration as mine have also suffered the same fate over the last few years, meaning although most houses are of the same design but everyone is turned 90 degrees to each other (some have kitchen at front the next maybe on side and the next may be at rear) and some are 3 or 4 bedroom and are slightly different in design.
The house is 30 years old, could I claim from my House Insurance for the repairs required.
