At the moment, we have a rather small Entrance to the Loft, I would like to install a folding Stair as access to the Loft Space, but the ones ive seen in the shops are much larger than the current access hole.

Will I be ok to just cut away at the hole to make it bigger for the loft ladder to fit?

Yes you can but need to double the joists length way and sideway. How big is the hole you want? Any photo?

Do you have a newish house? In other words do you have a trussed rafter roof or ordinary rafters and joists? If you have a trussed rafter rood, you cannot cut any joists or rafter except after expert advice, usually an architect or structual surveyor/engineer can easily give such advice for a small fee.

Visit the Trussed Rafter Association website at www.tra.org.uk for info on trussed rafters.
