Hi, looking to install a larger loft hatch with a proper ladder for easy access into the loft as getting a bit older and finding it hard to access the loft.
I have a Double W style truss roof. There is a loft ladder and hatch already installed. I was looking to fit a longer access panel with a fold down wooden ladder.
This would involve cutting through 1 joist. I have added a picture. The light blue square is existing loft hatch. The dark blue plus the light blue is the size of the new loft hatch. The 2 red lines would be where the joist would need cut.
The hatch is in the middle of the hall in a bungalow and there is a brick wall either side of it. The truss comes down on top of the wall at either side so the walkway up the middle is above the hallway with a brick wall either side.
I have tried to line the bottom diagram up with the top one to show that there is a brick wall at either side of the hatch.
The joists measure 124mm x 34mm. They are roughly 60cm apart.
