Hello,
I know there have been a few threads on loft boarding, but I couldn't find much in terms of diagrams or anything specific to my loft so I thought Id ask.
The intention is to board part of the loft for storage, without loading the existing ceiling joists too much. Aiming for 300mm of insulation

image 2 shows the plan,

new timber shown in blue,
green vertical surfaces are the cross sections of the top floor walls,

1. add 4*4 and align this with the central internal wall. - (4*4 is shown in diagram as 2 off 2*4)
2. lay some 2*6 with 1 end on the newly added 4*4. The other end fix to the existing ceiling joists with a plywood gusset.

my hope was that doing this will spread the load over the walls, rather than loading ceiling joists.

feels like overkill.

is there an easier way?

I doubt you'll find a more difficult way, lol.

Can you get long lengths of timber into the loft? Can you access the eaves (for fixing) way down by the wall plate?

I'd shorten the useable area so that is spanned the ceiling binders only and maybe fitted an upright stop end to stop baubles and stuff falling into the 'never to be seen again' void.
