Hi, I am looking to do a loft conversion, but unsure where to start
I need to know what the process involves and obviously what the most cost-effective approach will be.
Property currently has dormer windows, don't know if this gives me any adantage in the planning permission process.

Any input would be highly appreciated, just want to get the ball rolling :)

Thanks

If you are not changing the physical structure/appearance of the roofline you do not need planning permission just have to abide by building regs which are bountiful for loft conversions.

there are a fair few posts on the forum - worth a search and read (duzzer and mikel come to mind).

i've found the following library books good:

Loft Conversions: Planning, Managing and Completing Your Conversion" by Laurie Williamson
Roof Construction & Loft Conversion, C N Mindham, ISBN 0-632-03595-1

also this diy build report http://www.internode.co.uk/loft/index.htm

1st step is too check you have enough height - 2.5 metres from the bottom of existing ceiling joists to the top of ridge board is ideal
