Loft conversion help

Does this look right, im currently having my loft converted into another bedroom. The builder has installed a main steel running from the front to back of my mid terraced house. To clear the interior ceiling he has proped it up like this? I thought padstones were needed but he has ensured me yhis will pass building control.
 
No that's terrible, it should sit on the masonry, a padstone if the masonry is not up to it. Has he done the rest like this? :eek:

One assumes there's a dormer going in?

Better off asking in the Building section tbh.
 
That's weird, there was a photo in his thread when I posted, the mods moved it from projects to building so maybe it got lost along the way? Nowt in his album.
