loft flooring

hi, i want to board my loft floor,the joist's are 3"x2" in good condition
do i need to strenghen them in case i later decide to convert?
if so what size timber,and will it be o-k to lay them alongside the others
and screw them together?any advice welcome.

hi,thermo, clicked on the site you suggested,not relevant to my query,
i know how to board out,it is the strengh of joist's for future conversion
that is the question,

if you want to know that then you are going to need advice from building inspector and a structural engineer, as there are so many variable factors involved.

The size will be on your drawing plans when passed.
 
Size wise you would be looking at using a bare minimum of 6 X 2 timbers but could be 7 X 3's or 8 X 2's etc. As mentioned it will all depend on your wall positions and room spans and load bearing walls and......and..... and.... . Consult an Architect and get some plans to get a definate idea.
