i need to insulate my loft as it is an old house with 100mm of fibreglass insulation already down which is not very effective.

the prob is that i plan to do a loft converstion in five years maybe sooner, and need to know if i need to put a specialist insulation or if there is any special preperation that needs to be done or thought of for the futur loft converstion.

any one got any help or advice on this??

It can depend on your existing ceilings and what is required by Building Regs for fire proofing. I've got lath and plaster ceilings and had to improve the fire resistance to all the ceilings.
To acheive 1/2 hr rating I fitted 100mm rockwool flexi slab between the ceiling rafters, suspended on chicken wire. The chicken wire stops the insulation falling through if the ceiling colapses. I added extra "bog standard" rockwoll type stuff to all the areas outside the actual loft room.

Your can see how I did it on my blog http://roomuptop.blogspot.com/2007/06/cleaning-up-between-rafters-with-dust.html

Regs may change in the next five years and along with possible structural work or strengthening rafters/floor etc then you are wasting your time planning for it now.

Spend £50 on some of the 200mm quilt currently on a good offer at the sheds, and just lay that down for a bit
