hi people

I'm wanting to remove all the old loft insulation as I'm going to drop the whole ceiling in main bedroom. The reason for this is ceiling is uneven in many places and there is huge bulge in one area where there was once a leak in the roof.

I've started bagging it up but it's taking way too long. Apart from dropping the ceiling with the loft insulation on top and making a mess, is there any other way i can do it that would be a bit quicker.

It's loose stuff and for some reason it's got dark grey bits of plaster and black flaky (which crumbles easily) mixed in with it. Is there anything I should be worried about? It's an old terrace built in 1880s.

Also, (sorry to go on) I'm thinking of buying a proper respirator mask (the ones where you can replace the filters one) cos the £5 one from B&Q aint doing the job as I've been coughing and had bad chest since started baggin this loose insulation. Can anyone make any recommendations please?

Any feedback as always would be much appreciated.

Dont do any more until you get at least a dust mask.....a propper respirator mask , goggles and gloves would be an idea...

You never know what your removing or disturbing in old property....

Surely it would have been easier to leave old cieling in tact, and add a false lowered cieiling????
