hello, my daughter sleeps in our loft conversion and has halogen lighting. one of three was already blown. she repeatedly turned switch on and off and told me the other two lights dimmed. i have since replaced all three halogen lights however they do not come on. the lighting rest of house is fine and the mains did not trip when she done this. could the transformer need replacing? ive checked wireing on current one and looks good! any suggestions please. have also replaced both light switches which did nothing.

It could be loads of things to cause a light not to work from as you say a faulty or overloaded transformer if one is used to bad connections and any electrician would look at where he can access to test and likely a few guesses as to what it may be and if that fails a step by step approach. But there are not really any short cuts.
I hate extra low voltage lighting as there is no difference in connection between a 10W and 50W lamp and so many times I find wrong size bulbs and as a result burnt out supply units. The old big round units seem to last for years and years but the new inverters seem to pop all to regular plus you can’t fit cold cathode energy saving lamps only LED type so changing for low voltage (230V) is normally best option and do away with any transformers.
One test is of course remove all but one bulb if it is overloaded some units have auto reset and it may then start working but normally it is get meter out job.
