good evening to all, next week i'm getting loft insulated and we need 10" more on top of what we've got. however we use the loft regularly for storing and what have you.
i'm planning on screwing pieces of of 4x2 to the up rights supporting the roof will this be ok to do or will it put to much pressure on the up rights from our kit we're storing.

any other suggestions would be appreciated.

regards

270mm is depth of insulation reqd. in a loft.

Screwing on to hangers will probably work, providing the storage items are lightweight and the platform spans are reasonable. Perhaps post a pic of your loft timbers.

What size joists are in place?

Depending on the roof construction, there may be an issue with point loading to certain timbers rather than an even load spread across several joists.

But the thing to consider is, taking 1m2 of loft as an example, is 275mm of insulation better than 1000mm of boxes with stuff in them?

the kit up there is basically clothes and other bits and pieces.. the span between the up rights is approx 2 meters but what i was thinking is putting a support in the middle to the original joist just for added weigh bearing, the loft construction is kind of a w shape.
