I got loft rep out from a company that is local advertising ...£495.00 for hatch , ladder , 8ft X 8ft boards and light & switch..which is a good deal ...

my friend had it and is chuffed to bits with it, so I got them to come out , they've given me a price for £1,700. for 1 hatch, 1 ladder, 2 lights and switch and 1 velux window and 380sq. ft of flooring... this seems like a good price although havent yet had chance to shop around...sorry to go on but when the rep was here, he said we could use it to put a table etc., up there ? which would be great so hubby could work at PC up there and children could do homework up there... We dont need it to be a room to sleep in but would like to use it as a computer/office room.?? Would this be safe? Hubby is sceptical and thinks they may say this to get the sale, but if we fell through the roof and they sell it as storage loft we wouldnt have any comeback....just don't want to wreck our house. Whats your advice ? sorry for long post.

the loft timbers are usually designed to be strong enough to hold up the ceilings, not people or heavy objects.

A loft conversion into a habitable room usualy includes providing bigger joists

What size are your timbers, and how far apart?

A photo of the method of roof construction will also help.

sorry 380 sq ft....going to go up at the weekend and measure joists etc.,,.... any one else had this done and used it as an office space - is there anything they wished they had thought of first ??
