Hi All

Had a log burner installed for 3 years, worked fine until recently. Now even just lighting it results in smoke billowing back into the room from underneath it. Chimney has been swept and logs are good.

Any ideas?

Presume you have a cowl/liner?

If there are no obstructions, then I would try a test light with just some kindling.

Have the back door or window open when you light it, might encourage the draw. Are all the air vents in the correct position on the log burner?

Sounds like a cold plug in the flue. Quick blast with a hair dryer will shift it (be careful not to blow the ash everywhere!)

Is the steel baffle in place correctly - above the flame area? Occasionally a soot fall will block things up back there, especially if it has the Morso cup type baffle at the bottom of the flue as well as the sheet steel one. Worth removing it to check!

Hi thanks for the responses. Still smoking though:
- have cowl/liner
- vents open
- window open
- test smoker worked
- smoke coming out of chimney
but as soon as try to light a fire....same problem.

Chimney sweep is coming back next week to look from top down - fingers crossed
