Hello

I will be submitting full plans for building control for an extension
As part of this extension I wish to put a log burner in it - am I able to add that to the plans and effectively get building control to sign that off at the same time as the extension (I.e under the same application) or is a separate application and additional cost required for the sign off for the log burner aspect?

Thank you
G

You can add it, but the inspector may require certification from the installer to prove compliance. They would not inspect it (they are not qualified) nor would they pay for a firm to certify it, but would expect you to prove compliance and then sign it off.

In practice you would normally have the burner and flue installed by a competent person registered on one of the approved schemes anyway, and they would self-certify under building regulations.

I think you'll need to include it if done at the same time as the other works. If it is done after the completion certificate is issued then a HETAS installer can self certify things.

How does one 'prove compliance'?
Is one of those carefully worded ambiguities that are designed to get the inspector out of doing any work?
