Once a 5” twin wall flue passes through the roof and into the outside, on the grounds of cost saving, is it possible to go back to a single walled flue pipe rather than continuing with twin wall all the way to the rain cap? Do current regulations allow this? Thanks

Won't it cause condensation and sooting in that section? I thought flues ought to be kept as hot as possible.

I doubt it, and if it did I wouldn’t do it anyway. The purpose of the insulated flue is to reduce condensation. A single wall pipe would condense like mad and you’d get tar running down the inside. In old chimneys this is what used to catch fire.

When it comes to flues its about doing whats right not whats cheapest . If you start messing about with single wall up there you could end up with water in the insulation between the two skins
