Not seen one of those for a while, I moved into a house in 1981 that had one, but I'm sure that it clips on to the same standard backplate still used by many programmers today:

If you were to undo the two screws at the bottom and take the programmer off you will see. [Turn off the isolator at the side first]

Have a look online and find a programmer you like the functions of, and then check to see if it has the same backplate. Alot do.

You don't give any information about the type of heating system it's controlling, but if it's an old system with gravity circulation of hot water and only the heating is pumped, then you need to make sure that the replacement has the option to select 'gravity' or 'fully pumped'. If you system is fully pumped then no issue.

I assume that you are sure it is the programmer that has failed. There are other faults on certain types of systems that could create the same fault. If the HW light on the programmer doesn't switch off, and because of its age, it would indicate that it is the programmer. Has anything happened recently, such as the fuse blown in the fused connection unit, or any electrical work been done on the heating system?

If you have Gravity hot water, when you select CH the HW will also come on, doesnt matter what programmer you replace it with, this will be the case , if you want heating without HW you will need plumbing and control upgrades

Thanks for the replys. The 3 amp fuse blew which is what caused all to go off . Then i replaced it and all came back on apart from when switching off the hot water it doesn't so i switch it off at the mains . This is a gravity boiler . And replying to ianmcd yes i know water is on at the dame time as central heating. I just want to replace it with anything as close to the timer i have at the moement. Which comes to the next question....in the pictures of wiring diagrams could anybody please tell me if these two timers are the same wiring ? The first pic is the back of a Siemens rwb2e which hopefully i can just clip straight on and the second pic is the back of my old timer . Anyone can tell me if they are the same please ?

Its what's known as a common back plate so everything is same tho you odd times have to fit new back plate for new programmer to fit.
Don't forget to set new programmer correctly for gravity hot water.

Hi and thanks for the replys , I'm basically trying to replace it with this Siemens?

Afaik that should work, depending on price, I’d go for a Drayton twin channel, and set that to gravity?

Hi. Great so i may buy that . I know mines a gravity bolier but what do you mean set it on gravity, what do i have to do?

The 3 amp fuse blew which is what caused all to go off .

Hmm. That's what I suspected, and hence my question. A short circuit often welds the switch contacts together so that they remain permanently 'on'. If you did something that caused the fuse to blow and have now rectified it, that's fine. If not, some investigation as to the cause would be in order, because if it happens again, then you run the risk of the samething happening to the new programmer.
