I am looking for a device which will extend my wireless broadband to a house about 3/4 mile away, so we can play games over "our" network and share a broadband connection without having to pay for two lots of broadband.
Clearly it must have good security and, knowing the exaggerated range claims of some manufacturers, should "claim" a range of about 2 miles.

Any ideas?

we have a linksys wrt54gs V4, we installed a well known 3rd party Firmware Version: v4.71.1, Hyperwrt 2.1b1 + Thibor15c, and boosted the Transmit Power from default 50% to 100%.
then did a site survey and found 3 others on channel 2 so moved ours to channel 13.
Planning to buy the linksys longer antennas.

Without the arials its made a massive difference.

So look at the possibilities of 3rd party firmware its free, and only takes a few minutes to flash.

and make sure you use the security settings, i have had to do 3x this week for neighbours.

you can play console games using a modfied console running on XLINK KAI.
via internet and its free, apart from modding your console.
