Hi all Iam eventuall going to replace my supply cable at home (cobblers kids etc) this is a T&E from cut out in a box in the wall outside I want to use split concentric, now I understand that there may be a requirement for mechanical damage protection BASEC "may be required" and the regs don't mention it at all "adequate protection must be employed" this from memory so it's not a quote I will consult them fully once I have made a firm decision, can I run this up the wall cavity ? into the loft as at present it winds it way for about 12 metres in the cellar which is kneeling hieght and gets lower as it goes toward the front of the house

You really should avoid the use of cavity walls to run cables.
There's nothing stopping a future owner of the property having cavity wall insulation installed.

ARe we talking about the tails from the meter to a consumer unit or something else?

Garymo Hi jezz cavity wall insulation I think I had a craft moment I had this installed last year god am I going senile, and yes its from the meter to the CU I think I will have to think about another route cheers

Bear in mind that most DNO's will only be happy with a maximum length of 2-3M for tails. Over that, you'll require overload protection via a switch fuse or similar.

That is another issue that has croped up Gary the existing has been installed by who knows it's 10mm T&E and has been left on the cellar floor all the way then it goes up an internal wall cavity total run about 15 metres there was off peak storeage at one point which I had removed and I hauled out the cables that was left they too went up the wall cavity, might have to bring it up through the floor in a corner could always conceal it and then into the loft still fancy using split con though any thoughts

Would 3 core 25mm swa not be better due to armour protection ?

Hi Chris Yes I have considered SWA and may still go with it only draw back is its damn inflexability round bends split con is a bit more bendy
Cheers Dev.
