I’m just saying it’s less fun in the winter. Some folk look out of the window and only see the now/today.

I’d wait until I had all the infrastructure all sorted before committing to leccy.

Same when log burners took off. Some sensible people made room for a covered area to store logs, and invested in a splitter and chain saw etc. Others rushed in and ended up paying lots of money for seasoned prepared wood to burn and ended up paying as much as gas and then allowed all that lovely dried wood to get wet.

What would you suggest, a daily, weekly or monthly account? I wouldn’t personally impose on a friend for something like that. If you didn’t have an EV, would you be happy for a friend to have a charger installed at your house for their use? I certainly wouldn’t and I wouldn’t expect any friend of mine to ask for such a thing. It’s an outright liberty!

Its not realistic. He might consider it as hes next car will be electric. If I payed the installation costs, it may well appeal and work well with his solar... All the said. It wouldn't sit right with me.

• 2nd hand ad blue vans haven't got a good reputation
• Hybrid are above my price limit.
. Im sure Im not alone in a situation that charging a vehicle is going to be a bit more hassle than doing nothing.

I personally wouldn’t buy diesel, especially one that needed add blue.

Apart from the £1k cost of a charge point, the extra £2k on the price, the fact there’s no space under the boot floor for a spare wheel and the fact that once the novelty of plugging it in every night wears off, that’s the reason I went for a HEV rather than a PHEV.

If a hybrid is out of your price range, wait until it isn’t.

On the subject of your mate and "his" charger.....

Thinking on while driving to the shops.

Say he gets an EV himself.
Say he gets his own home charger.
Say he works, and not work from home.

His charger would be free for use all day.

And before anyone poo-poos that scenario, swap "mate" for "anyone local who rents out their charger while they're not using it", and there's an option.
And you just plug in and leave it : you'll get thirty miles of range per hour tops, so it's not like supercharging where you can add two hundred miles in the time it takes to go for a slash.

People do this, just like people rent out spare rooms.

And even daytime home charging is cheaper than commercial charging.


If absolute bottom dollar or ease factor is your decision driver, no good for you.

Depends on what your wishes and priorities are.

Seen him today. He's next car will be electric.

I did half say today if I paid for the cost of the charging he would think its a win win.

It would put value on his house. Make more use of his Solar by not selling back to the grid and make an electric vehicle more viable for himself.

It right by the town park where I walk my Dogs.
Hes practically adopted my daughter. Shes alway having sleep overs with his daughters.
Its viable.

I suspect it wont happen but its definitely very viable.

Im looking to move house in the next couple of years.
An Electric van could be 10 grand cheaper than a Hybrid. Just means more eggs in another pot.


Its like a customer needing a new shower pump.
Im not trying to sell her a combi, but I ask what's your plans over the next few years.

Id rather spend my money on my property.

I could actually park on my land. However that, I would need to buy access to cross council land to park on my property. I suspect they would want to charge a hefty price for dropped kerb so I can cross their tarmac and their mud.
