hey guys

when looping in and out of the switch box is it ok to use connector block for the neutrals or are crimps better?

cheers

I use connectors if its in the switch box and there's room.
The connection is accessible so no worries.
The trouble with crimps is that every time you disconnect the joint the cable gets shorter, and shorter.

A connector is the norm, as you will often have three or more neutrals at a switch.

This also makes it easier for testing / fault finding etc. in the future.

cheers lads

the only reason i ask ive heard rumours that the nic dont like the use of connector block in switches, dont know how true that is.

just out of interest you dont tape round the connector do you?

Go wash your mouth out

There is no need for tape. It just means the connector is all horrid and sticky next time you need to work on it.

I've heard nothing about that from the NICEIC, and I can't see that they would call for that, afterall, all the connections to the switchplate are screwed anyway

well yeah totally agree with you m8, but you speak to different people some say ooww no dont use connector block speak to others like yourself and there is no problem

cheers

Its a perfectly valid installation method. There's no reg, or NICEIC "statute" that says you cant. Its urban myth, M8.

I believe the NICEIC requirement is to glue the terminal connector firmly to the back box. Not being NICEIC, I wouldn't know for sure.
