I'm in a new house and the pipe to the shower head in one of the showers moves up and down several inches, more than any shower I've ever seen. The builder says this is normal but it seems like some support is missing. Is this normal? It seems like he doesn't want to have to take a look by removing the dry wall and all that entails.

without seeing exactly what you've got i dont know.
pipes should be supported, however some times its not possible and other times its of advantage not to (ie piping rads up, so you can move pipe out of the way easily etc)
