Hi

My son has a 12v trike similar to the pic that we bought second hand.

Its worked perfectly for a year but now the power has become very weak so the trike wont move when hes on it. In fact it doesnt move when hes not on it.

I bought a battery capacity tester and tested both the 6v batteries and they read 'ok'.

When I lay the trike on its side and push the accelerator pedal the wheels turn ok but as soon as its upright and under its own weight it just wont move & no noise from the motor.

If its not the batteries and its not a problem with cable connections (as it works fine on its side) then what else could it be? And how can i fix it?

Thanks

I still think the problem could be a faulty/tired battery.

You say you bought a Battery Capacity tester, what is it exactly?

Have you got a multimeter to measure the battery voltages?

I assume the batteries are lead acid batteries, same as a car battery. They have a limited life cycle, I mean they can only be charged/discharged so many times and if they are regularly discharged very deeply their life can be shortened quicker.

Regards, Dave.

With the trike on its side connect the battery tester and see what the reading is. Then activate the wheels and see what the meter does whilst they are turning. If it drops significantly the batteries are gone and need replacing.

Could have a corroded connection somewhere also.

by spending £15 on new batteries you will be able to rule a lot out
the batteries will more than likely have enough charge to run the bike fore a while if it operates properly then it rules out the running circuits

if it then charges properly it rules out the charger and charging circuit
if it then doesn't charge you have only 2 areas to rule out charger or circuit
