Low pressure in hot water tap

Hi

This morning, I posted a question in a thread that already existed, but now I can't find it. I think it may originally have been in the wrong forum because it was subsequently moved, but - though it could always be me - I can no longer find it.

My problem related to a kitchen mixer tap. The hot water was reduced to a trickle. It was suggested that I block up the tap openings, switch on the hot and cold and, hopefully, blast any airlock out of the system.

I've tried this and, so far, the pressure seems to have improved a little. I'll try again. If it works, I'll let you know as the problem has obviously affected several people here as others were kind enough to offer a solution.

As previously, I'll keep my fingers crossed.

I see from the number of posts attributed to me (fewer than I've made) that the original thread has been removed. Hopefully it's now in the right place!

Does the tap feel like it is operating as it used to? Is it looser or stiffer to turn? Does it turn more or less than it did when the flow was fine?

Is your hot water tank or combi fed?

Hi BoxBasher

It turns much the same, though always been a little bit stiff. It does sometimes make a squeaking noise it didn't used to.

It's tank fed, not combi.

I tried the tip about switching on the hot water tap, covering the mixer holes, then turning on the cold water to blast an airlock out of the system.

This seems to have improved the pressure to the point where it's just about back to normal.

BUT I now have a knocking sound in the pipes. As far as I can tell, this seems to be when both taps are on and I switch off the cold water.

I assume this still means there's air on the system. Should I keep trying to blast it out as I've done so far?

Just in case this deserves a separate thread - as it's a different problem - I've begun one above under the heading, 'Banging in hot and cold water pipes'. Hope that's the best thing to do.
