Hi

I am moving in a house in the next few months and for some reason the upper sections of the old chimney have been removed but there lower part thats between the kitchen and dining room is still in place , we would like to have that removed to make a large kitchen . What would you expect a builder to charge to remove this , doesn't seem weight bearing. thanks in advance

Could vary a lot. If a builder + labourer quote nicely, then maybe £300/day labour + overheads + skip. 1 day work to demolish should be enough, 1 more day if you want ceiling boarded, made good. So maybe you could find a builder that will do for around £800-1000. But most companies will probably quote more than that.

I was quoted around £1300 for full chimney removal a few years ago:

To carry out the removal work only of the full external chimney stack, the chimney breast internally, plus making good the roof, you would be looking at around £1800.00. To carry out the same to the smaller chimney further back, you would be looking at around £1300.00.
The smaller chimney had same size breast but much smaller stack, although still needed more work than you need.
