LPG for gas hob - DIY job ?

'Er in doors has asked for a gas hob in the kitchen I am about to start fitting. The problem is I live in a remote part of Wales with only electric and oil available.

LPG is the obvious answer but does the pipework have to be installed by a CORGI fitter ? Or is it something a DIY bod could do ?

you still have to be a registed installer and hold lpg qualifications to do this kind of work all the test pressures etc are different for lpg and also the work is notifiable under the gas work notification scheme so even if you felt competent to do the job you could not fill in the commissioning certificate and notify the work. and under the new HIP pack you will need this information.

Thanks WMS. Someone actually told me today that the LPG company may even do it for free. Does that sound likely ?

that depends on the company. Pay a company enough money and anything is "free" *

perhaps i am wrong, but dont you have to have

a) special appliance that can run on LPG

b) have existing cooker (or what ever) converted to run on LPG


* nothing is free it has to be paid for by some one, some where.
It may be the company will "do it for free" because they charge more than the other company (in other words its not free, you have already paid for it)

I have bulk propane for my gas heating and cooking. I went to the Calor showroom for my cooker. As I understand it, any ordinary cooker or boiler that you can get, you can also get to run on propane. As I got mine from Calor I didn't have to specify that I wanted it set up for propane but if you were getting it from an ordinary showroom, they should be able to get the one you wanted with the proper set up.

Most hobs (in my experience) come with different sized jet nozzels to fit when using LPG, and that's about it, nothing else special (apart from a sticker to stick on it to say it's running on LPG).

Yup thats what I have been told. All new gas hobs come with the LPG nozzles.
