Just stripped the paint on my ceiling, really peeled off easily.

Its revealed an area that has obviously been patched in the past for some reason. I don't want to paint it as it is and it would seem drastic to get the whole thing skimmed, easpecially as the rest is really flat.

This area is going to have a shower underneath it. I'm wondering about cutting a piece of plasterboard to be the same shape as the shower tray beneath it, sticking it to the ceiling and simply painting over it.
Is that likely to work?

Other option I suppose it to belt sander it back to blend it in.

Sand down and then lining paper?

Although bathrooms and paper tend to fail eventually so I'd get a plasterer in for a mornings work and stuffer the £100 or so cost.
That sort of price is a simple 3x3m ceiling, prepped, PVA and ready to go.
