I've just upset quite a few women on another forum..
one was talking about how her 10 year old son is being a little brat and upsetting her.. blah, blah, blah..

so I suggested that instead of prising him when he's good ( like letting him go to a party that she'd told him he couldn't, if he was good ), that they ought to try punishing him for being bad..
a clip round the ear or a smack when he's playing up...

a smack never did any of my or previous generations any harm and the ASBO culture of hoodies in gangs only seems to have come up since they banned coporal punishment from schools and made it virtually illegal to hit your own child.

Q.) your 5 year old child throws a pot of paint that they were using to paint pictures, all over your nice tiled kitchen floor / pale dining room carpet. Do you:-

1.) Say "nevermind, accidents happen" and clean the mess up every time they do it.
2.) Give them praise for not being constrained by the boundaries that society tries to put on them, and for making such a good piece of organic art.
3.) Say "Oh [childs name here], look what a mess you've made, don't do it again.." with a stern look on your face.
4.) Say "That was very naughty!!" and then take them to the naughty step for 5 minutes.
5.) Make them clean it up.
6.) Give them a smack and make them clean it up.

Hi ColJack,

You left out;

7.) Say "can you hear mummy?" (over the ambulance sirens) and say he fell over.

I got to like casualty you know.

Cheers

....and where do you stop....smack em harder if they dont listen the first time??....im guessing you dont have kids coljack!...

funnily enough that's the same reply i got over there.. and no I don't

I'll stop now before I alienate half this forum too..

and the reason I was over ther is because it's a weight loss support forum that has info on the diet I'm on and recepies etc..
I don't ask or answer DIY questions over there..

Rub his nose in it and stamp on his fingers..........he won't do that again.

....times have changed and hitting kids is not acceptable...

the older generation paint a very rosy picture of the olden days.....of course there were unruly kids back then......that why there were approved schools and borstals....full of em!....

Clouting a kid around the head or body is wrong, as is using a cane or belt, but a short sharp slap on the legs is fine (IMO), and works very well...

bloody right. it's an attention getter more than punishment though, and it doesn't have to be hard.

people seem to get overly precious about such things, i don't imagine that the kid in question would at some point be on the receiving end of a good hiding from another kid during its childhood, or just as likely giving one.

*sigh*......coljack said...."a smack never did any of my or previous generations any harm and the ASBO culture of hoodies in gangs only seems to have come up since they banned coporal punishment from schools and made it virtually illegal to hit your own child. "

i was pointing out that there has always been these kind of kids....its not a modern phenomenon!....
