I recently had extractor hood connector installed and certified. The conduit for this connection runs vertically behind cooker about 4cm horizontally from the edge of hob. Will this be ok with gas regulations regarding the proximity of the conduit to hob?

There are regulation concerning, external influences and the environment in which electrical circuits and accessories are installed, this is often a judgement call related to common sense rather than a specified distance that separate circuits/accessories from potential hazards.

It does not sound ideal to me having plastic conduit protecting PVC cable from the extreme heat that a hob can dissipate via it's burners and conduction to pans.

But without seeing the situation in real live, it would be hard to give you the best solution, but if the cable and conduit are surface mounted, the options of cable routing are more flexible than that of buried cable.
