I have just changed a single rose light to six downlighters. I did the following:

Replaced the rose with a four terminal junction box.
Connected all of the neutrals together including the one from the fly lead to the first light
Connected the three lives from the switch and supplies together.
Connect the switch/live to the live of the fly lead to the first light.

I then connected a fly lead between each light live to live, neutral to neutral. As there was no earth on the lights I connected the earths on the fly leads (1.5mm t/e) using connector blocks using a connector block to terminate the final earth.

Is this correct?

Thanks crafty. When you say as far as you can tell do you mean I need to supply more information?

Yes they work. Just was really looking for clarification of the earthing situation.

As long as there is a sound earth connection available at each lighting point which it sounds like you have, it is OK.
