Hi all

Can anyone please explain the difference between Mains Voltage CAST Downlights (£3.58 each inc VAT) and Mains Voltage PRESSED Downlights (£1.24 each inc VAT) from Toolstation besides the price!

Thanks

Andrea

The clue is in the name ;)

Pressed DLs are pressed from a sheet of steel.

Cast DLs are made by pouring molten alloy into a DL shaped mould.

The only real difference is looks. I prefer cast DLs, as they tent to have a nice bevelled edge, and the pressed fittings can often distort slightly, so they don't sit perfectly flush with the ceiling.

Thanks for replying.

Do you think the cast downlights are worth the extra cost?

Thanks Andrea

Personally yes, and I have fitted cast DLs in my house, but I am a bit sad and sit and look at my lights
