Hi
Sorry if the wrong category.
Looking to see what’s available to fit to my electric garage door.
I see meross have a unit with links to Apple and CarPlay.
Wondered who’s installed what.
It’s a hormann unit I believe.
Cheers

The problem with motorised doors and gates is the safety aspect.

My father-in-law had an electric garage door installed, and it was not very good. First problem was no personal door, and the fuse box was in the garage, so if a fuse went, no way to get access to replace it. That was cured by fitting a lock which would release and then could be pulled to release the door.

Next was the way used, remote in car, and remote in the vestibule, so he would open door, drive the car in, then go into the house and close it, not viewing it while it closed.

Two problems, one was any grit under the door, and it would auto re-open, so I often knocked his door to tell him garage door was open, and two has been known to see the odd car dart out when door opened, clearly sneaked in unseen. But that was rare, mainly due to door being left open first.

So to automate the door, so you can operate it without viewing it, there needs to be something to tell you if the door is open. I would assume already has sensors to stop it closing on anyone.

And the door must not be able to trap animals or children. When he drove in and closed door, it was reasonably safe, but when he went out to clear stones from floor as it had not closed, he did not check to see if any animals had sneaked in.

A lot is down to not giving an excuse, I thought I heard a cat trapped in your garage, so I made a forced entry is not what you want to hear, I am about to fit cat flap to shed for that reason, just in case I trap one inside. And that is with a manual door. I would say fit a PIR and intruder alarm so it will alert if anything trapped.
