Thanks…I agree but our heating firm begs to differ and have fitted it on the flow, surely this must be directing any dirt around the system towards the boiler un filtered rather than away from it?
Tell them to back up their assertion with the installation instructions for the Magnaclean. If manufacturer says it's OK, who are we to argue.
Bear in mind that, if it's an open vented system, there must not be any valve between the source of heat (the boiler), and the vent pipe (above the small F&E tank, usually in the loft).
System boilers and combis usually have a safety valve built into the boiler.
It is best to have it fitted on the return, after the last radiator before the boiler, but on a sealed system it is acceptable to have it any where you like (as long as it is suitable) either on flow or return and on a vented system you can also have it any where you like, as long as it is after the vent/cold feed.
If it is not practical to have it on the return, then you can not go shouting your mouth off at them can you
